With the decision to bring ceramics and the plaster together, I began to think about
how I could display these pieces as I looked at the plaster, I knew I wanted to have it
hanging from the ceiling in some way. I continued to explore the clay and started to think about the shape of the clay looking like a natural shape in the ground giving it a more circular edge. Also, how I can make it look more earthy with the clay having flower imprints and being stained with iron and oxide. In my mind, I was envisioning the clay hanging next to pieces of plaster. How was I going to do this? I thought about when I did my final piece last year on the access course where I had wood and placed holes to hang layers of an image from a piece of wood which was done with fishing wire. The only thing is that the fish wire was holding Perspex which is a very light material and this was different as I was looking at clay and plaster.
I was given my space and began to make more of the space placing the plaster on the floor and I did like how the piece of plaster looked together. However, I found the floor to interfere with the look. The plaster looked earth natural, and the floor looked clinical. I was still waiting for my main piece of clay. I got the width of the space measured up and had a piece of wood cut to act as the roof. Moving forward with my vision and working with measurements of the space I created the roof placing hooks into the plaster. I had already placed holes into the pieces of the clay I was waiting for. Continuing, with improving the space I had, and a side wall created a cube. I had to paint it all white. Then I began placing holes into the ceiling, looping the fishing wire over a nail and over the hole. I did this gradually over a few days while sculpting and placing some on the floor.
This involved hanging one, taking my time, looking at it, leaving it, returning and continuing to be sculpting. It involved being very patient, something that I lack , although I liked things being detailed.
Overall, I was pleased with the finished art piece as the video projection gave texture, and the movement of life going forward. The sound being for short time lapses worked well as it gave a sense of space to take you in rather than as a constant. I would like to improve the sound.
Having collected my clay piece mid-way through I still had a desire to place them with the plaster however I am coming to the realisation that I often am so driven that I can place too much into the work. However, it’s about pushing ideas and they could have stood alone rather than continuing the experimentation. I pressed on more with the clay creating 18 pieces. Once again, I tried to place them with the work. However, it simply did not need it. In this project, I have tried to push myself. I have struggled, with doing my video as quickly as I normally do. My time management could have been better I think use fewer ideas or try one idea and trust that I can make that be enough.
The things to improve on will be my annotations. This is something I need to understand more to do more and intend to learn. I will start practising through the summer because I feel that I forget the data which is collected in relation to the artist, and I am struggling to do this with thoughts wandering around in my head. So, although I think I know what annotations are,I think I am going to have to break it down to build it back up to do this at a better level.
The ability to be more assertive with my decision-making, for example, in the choices of material colours within my work, requires me to step into a role where I need to be more confident with what I am doing and get swifter with my choices and blogging things in time there and then.
I have really enjoyed this project and feel I have tried my best there is always something to improve on
Earthy chaos but without the softness.
The floor was too clinical and the dynamics were missing.
Different grouping and the white flooring softened the space
The wood with the sheer fabric gave the chaos an element of peace.
