LUCY NELSON is an artist who started in the performing arts with a passion for drama, studying this as an A level along with English Literature with a desire to go Drama school as she had won multiple awards for drama . When talking to one of her lecturers they said that she should study fine art and she so went on to Stafforshire University in 2002
Starting off as a painter, creating photo realistic style she
embellished surfaces working with various materials .
When working with materials, she likes to go into all aspects of the material she is utilising, this could be how it works or where it is made . At University she felt as if it was very selective with the direction of some students leading those to success and held back with encouraging the rest . This led to Lucy leaving her studies . She came to the conclusion to make life happen with her own actions going down the road of theatre makeup and community theatre. Whilst running workshops she discovered that she enjoyed helping teaching others .
Lucy moving to Nottingham to study for a Masters and on completion she worked supporting people with Autism. Lucy also taught at South Notts College for seventeen years which funded her ability to produce art. She has been offered a residency and run discovery workshops helping people with self-discovery through art.
Her advice was to build up a portfolio slowly and take all opportunities to develop yourself.
