4 HERO FETURING Urshal Rucker

4 Hero is an electronic breakbeat drum bass band that came out in the 90s with various collaborations with poets and singers. Their sound is experimental with clarity in its delivery.

Urhal Rucker is an artist and performance poet. When listening to dramatic tones her connection with words
and her connection with voice with the projection of her voice, tone and character thoughtfully weaving dancing with the instrumentation.  The piece delivers a thoughtful, otherworldly tone.  Sculpting together with the surrounding sounds she takes you on a journey that walks and bounces into unexpected spaces. Alfred Hitchcock is a film-maker working in classic black and white. hHs work plays on themes of hopelessness and is
overtly dramatic. Watching the film titled Rebecca, there is an openness, a naivety to the main characters
with a continuous suspense driven by a combination of the setting, sound and character. I take this into my work
my delivery of characters' voices, the placement of the music surrounding and the moving picture .
A film I would like to focus on is titled Rebecca .The opening of this film Noir draws you into a space. It's a feeling of what is next with a focus on the voice that travels with the scene. A feeling of another world, unknown suspense and where you are taking me, complimented by the sound, picture, lighting creates anxiety . With a mystery yet a little knowing of what the characters are going through . The minimal black and white is homely yet scary. There is something so within the human mind that is embedded with the contribution of black and white film

poetry performance workshop

Vocal Lyrical Expression Exploration

Deepening my research with this project has enabled me to develop further through participating in a slam poetry workshop in Sheffield. Delivering a spoken word performance on my developing character  phrasing word delivery.

Writing words and letting them flow exercise was about exploring character with no judgment letting it happen,  improvisation through the use of words. Below is further exploration. I was not well that day and I didn't quite do what I wanted, although I managed to express words in a short-lived performance experiment.

Home exploration

Streaming allows the thoughts and the words to just flow to then go on paper. This is about letting the process happen. This exercise did not go to plan but the freestyle of words came from that morning.
I could have dived deeper. Testing this was essential but this approach was not what I wanted to make my main focus

LAYER SONG COMMUNICATION

Taking soundwaves braille a portrait image of my body pull

xray, otherworldy, imprisoned distopia

Wanting  to look at communication through the struggle, whilst expressing at the same time the need  to feel heard, I decided look at braille and sound waves image of the body with interpretation . I wanted to do this to look at at being missunderstood and  isolated within communication. At the same time there is sensitivity, feeling sensory . Buying a braille kit and exploring the feel of this type of communication on the fingers with someone else,  being able to hear and someone seeing there becomes this thing of community, knowing yet isolated

instrument building continued short lived

Instrument. building

Wanting to continue  with making instruments. To create an interactive piece thinking of connection and music uniting people and healing individuals and as a community. I know that  this a challenge that I should have executed on the first hurdle of the project. I  used old material recycling to create something that connects to many . How with so much to do I cut it up and created the sample but did not push this further. The reason being because this needs time and atttention . What I mean is this exploration of creating something to make sound from scratch requires dedication and knowing  this like I know my approach with film and sound production I would trust the process more. And so whilst it was short lived I will return to this in my own time .

ai remix of words add ai process lyrics

Taking the lyrics from the original piece I placed them into Chatgpt asking it write  like a script, a story .I then took the responses and used them within the development of the recording. I also took the original lyrics reading them backwards. I did this to give this sense of trying to communicate within a state of emptiness, wanting to be heard and understood through the self but also via others. Relaying the message the words can enable one to reassess and perceive things differently.

Feels like I DON’T RECONISE YOU

AM LOOKING FOR ANWERS

TRYNA FORCE an OUTCOMES

FOR PEACE

BUT PEACE NEVER ARRIVED

YOUR DOOR

FAKING FEELINGs

Tears still be coming

And then you are running

Then you RUN

Some more

Feel like I DON’T RECOGNISE YOU

Emptiness my body does feel

My body does feel

He draws her close to his body

While they lay in THEIR bed

wipes THE tears from her eyes oh

don’t listen to  those words  in your head

 oh feelings.

 they move like waters

 on those sandy shores

 It’s like don’t recognise you

 Emptiness my body does feel

 My body does feel

lyrics by Marita Robinson

Asking Chat GPT about my lyrics this was the response  below

Your words paint a poignant picture of longing and inner turmoil. The repetition of "Feel like I DON’T RECOGNISE YOU" creates a haunting refrain, emphasizing the sense of disconnection and confusion. The imagery of tears, running, and emptiness evokes a deep emotional struggle, while the comforting gesture of drawing close and wiping away tears adds a touch of intimacy amidst the pain. The comparison of feelings to moving waters on sandy shores beautifully captures their ebb and flow, their elusive nature. Overall, your piece explores the complexities of human emotion with raw honesty and depth.

I then asked for Chat GPT  to write a story after learning about Ai within the workshop that attended it opened up my eyes to highlighting possibilities of the direction of my work to go in

but to also help me with in weak spots of my work giving me insight into how my work is coming across and potential improvements.

Title: Unrecognized

[Scene 1] [Interior - Bedroom - Night]

[We see a man and a woman lying in bed, facing each other. The room is dimly lit, and there's a sense of tension in the air.]

Man: (whispers) Feels like I DON’T RECOGNIZE YOU.

Woman: (voice trembling) I'm looking for answers...

Man: (interrupting) Trying to force outcomes...

Woman: (voice breaking) ...for peace...

Man: (sighs) But peace never arrives at your door.

[The woman wipes tears from her eyes, trying to compose herself.]

Man: (softly) Faking feelings...

[The woman's tears continue to fall, and she turns away, trying to hide her emotions.]

Man: (reaching out) Tears still come...

[He gently pulls her closer, holding her tightly.]

Man: ...and then they run.

Woman: (murmurs) Then you run...

Man: (whispers) Some more.

[They lay in silence for a moment, grappling with their emotions.]

[Scene 2] [Interior - Bedroom - Night]

[Close-up of the woman's face as she gazes into the distance, lost in thought.]

Woman: (voiceover) Feels like I DON’T RECOGNIZE YOU.

[Cut to a shot of the man's hand reaching out to wipe away her tears.]

Man: (whispers) Emptiness my body does feel.

[The woman's eyes meet his, reflecting a mix of sadness and longing.]

Woman: (softly) My body does feel.

[They hold each other tightly, seeking solace in their embrace.]

[Scene 3] [Interior - Beach - Dawn]

[Wide shot of a deserted beach at dawn, waves gently lapping at the shore.]

[Voiceover of the woman's earlier words echoes in the background.]

Woman: (voiceover) He draws her close to his body...

[We see the couple walking hand in hand along the shoreline, their silhouettes against the rising sun.]

Woman: (voiceover) ...while they lay in their bed.

[The man leans in to kiss the woman's forehead, his gesture tender and reassuring.]

Man: (whispers) Don't listen to those words in your head.

[They pause, watching the sunrise together, finding solace in each other's presence.]

[Scene 4] [Interior - Bedroom - Night]

[Close-up of the couple lying in bed, their fingers intertwined.]

[Voiceover of the woman's earlier words returns, accompanied by the sound of gentle waves.]

Woman: (voiceover) Oh, feelings...

[The camera slowly pans out, revealing the couple enveloped in each other's embrace, their faces illuminated by moonlight.]

Woman: (voiceover) ...they move like waters on those sandy shores.

[The man holds the woman close, their bond unbreakable despite the challenges they face.]

Man: (whispers) It's like I don't recognize you.

Woman: (softly) Emptiness my body does feel.

[They close their eyes, finding peace in the warmth of their love.]

[Fade to black.]

 story

In the quiet solitude of their shared bedroom, Lily and Adam lay side by side, their thoughts drifting in the darkness like ships lost at sea. The air between them crackled with unspoken words, heavy with the weight of unresolved emotions.

Adam's voice broke the silence, barely above a whisper, "Feels like I DON’T RECOGNIZE YOU."

Lily turned towards him, her eyes reflecting a mixture of sadness and confusion. "I'm looking for answers," she admitted, her voice trembling with vulnerability.

"Trying to force outcomes..." Adam continued, his tone heavy with resignation, "...for peace."

But peace, it seemed, never arrived at their door. Lily's tears fell silently, each one a testament to the ache in her heart. Adam reached out, his touch gentle as he wiped away her tears, yet unable to erase the pain etched into her soul.

"Faking feelings..." he murmured, his voice barely audible over the sound of her stifled sobs.

"Tears still come," Lily whispered, her words a fragile admission of her own struggle.

"And then they run," Adam added softly, his arms wrapping around her as if to shield her from the storm raging within.

But the storm persisted, relentless in its fury. Lily felt as though she were drowning in a sea of uncertainty, her body weighed down by the emptiness that consumed her.

In the quiet hours of the night, they clung to each other, seeking refuge in the warmth of their embrace. Yet even in the safety of their shared bed, the distance between them seemed insurmountable.

As dawn broke, they found themselves drawn to the solace of the beach, the rhythmic ebb and flow of the waves a soothing balm to their troubled souls. Walking hand in hand along the shoreline, they watched as the sun rose on a new day, casting its golden light upon the vast expanse of the ocean.

Yet beneath the surface, turmoil still churned, their hearts heavy with the weight of unspoken words. Like the ever-shifting sands beneath their feet, their feelings moved with an ebb and flow as unpredictable as the tides.

"It's like I don't recognize you," Adam confessed, his voice barely audible above the gentle lapping of the waves.

"Emptiness my body does feel," Lily replied softly, her words a whispered prayer for the peace that had eluded them for so long.

In the quiet moments that followed, they found solace in each other's arms, their love a beacon of hope in the darkness that threatened to consume them. And as they watched the sun sink beneath the horizon, they knew that no matter how lost they felt, they would always find their way back to each other

questionaire and remixing

Questionnaire communication human relation to the song

Wanting to research people's connections with songs, I decided to do a questionnaire wanting people to look at a song in their lives. I wanted to do this with the thought of a song being a message that we hear. I intended to sample one of the tracks thinking about how the song would sound different to the person participating in the questionnaire. Coming back to remixing and changing notes, chords alter the feelings. The reason for this is to explore communication relating to the song and look at how reforming the track can alter thoughts and feelings.
I wanted to explore this with another person. Throughout the first leg of the project, I did this process with my own material pushing forward from the original acoustic and remixing the sound pushing it on, gaining a new vision of a old  picture.

Introduction Body Feel part 2

Welcome to Body Feel Part 2. Continuing from the project that began in September, I intend to look further into the subject of emptiness, exploring through performance and communication. I want to do this and bring this into the piece.  Attending a poetry workshop and AI art workshop, continuing sound exploration through music production and in search for filming opportunities connected to emptiness and moving through this state of being.  Engaging with questioning of human connection with our relationship with a song and sampling exploration.
Taking this project to a  still more reflective place and concluding with a film sound installation piece.

In movement and film

The other day I was in the market square and caught a bunch of young women dancing . In that moment I took my camera out and decided to film. This was not something that I see in Nottingham as it was youth choreographed moves, girls having fun . I took the film and then decided to place a sample  of the track within the film  I created.

This moment has me thinking to take this further I will continue looking

poetry workshop

In February I decided to do a poetry workshop and thinking of moving forward with the project taking the performance further.  It took place in Sheffield, and this was an opportunity to explore words and lyrics without singing. Poetry enables more or less words to a space than a traditional song. With the way my head works thinking in layers, I thought this could be a way to approach it. Although I wrote some streams of poetry allowing thoughts to just move through not questioning, enabling the art to craft itself without judgment, this enables the development of delivery

We looked at phrasing and delivery as it's a performative kind of poetry. This was about letting go and finding a way to say things. I went to this workshop wanting to look at ways of delivering words and message manipulating
