introduction of work

Jenny proped artist research

Taking influence from Jenny Saviles propped I take the use of body communication leaning to an acceptance of a physical self with it commmunicate something of a dislike to it also a librates giving permission to be where you are in your body my work does this.  I have taken a portrait of my body my life myself a part it and I am exploring through the use of visuals and sound showing my honesty yet there is a not knowing or understanding through the use of sound waves pushing and and pulling use of the body surrenders it is not hiding nor is  to stand out it is ordinary .

WORKS OF artist that inspire

The multiple layers of Fred agains perfomance and sound interest me the visual that appear casual everyday yet intimate for the fimlatiy of people hw know. And gets to know of his journey. sample sounds and pictures.Playing live with his work useing keys loops beats programming in live with the footage this organic approcah . I am drawing from his layers that although appears digtal electronic he is able to bring a human feel to his work and I take that from his work as a performer and artist. I find it so beautiful as wallzt in yet has elements resemble hiphop yet theartical with movement that could enable the body to express so much colour in its movement .  This is something I take as I want to bring performance phyiscally calbrating with another perfomer.

When listening to Steve Reich's piece different trains I am taken in by his use of strings dancing among one another with the sampling of voice and sounds that resemble a steam train whistle this sound could first be seen as annoying. I take from the composers use of sampling and instrumentation the use of traditional sounds the violin bringing cinematic sound. with the use of various voices I take into my final piece I draw from traditional and non-traditional sounds in my piece of work.

When watching this piece on screen the footage expresses a deep entwined history of culture and community within the subject that he focuses on the images do not appear perfect nor staged they appear as everyday kinds of imagery. Ordinary into the extraordinary. It's the visual focus on the subject that connects with poetry and the repeated hook that I connected to my work along with the evolving sound with the DJ  painting sounds. It is a layered experience. Layers within work portray complicity and this I take into my work.

body feel

 Body and Sound

Summary:

I am proposing to look at body expression through sound, words, music, sampling and physical movement. The idea is to visually encapsulate different strands into one symbiotic whole. I am interested in making combinations of moving images and my own sounds as audio-visual artworks.

I will explore bodily expression to share a sense of being or feeling lost and frustrated. This is a key essence I wish to embrace for the viewer.

First steps:

To get going I will write down words reflecting on thoughts and feelings and from that I will be accompanied with guitar

Leading on to recording. I will take

The recording further by learning more on mixing. Looking at movement bring the physical into this project doing hula hooping.

Filming to add to sound already created.

Attending Sensoria for research on composers who work with film.

Images from recording on logic take photos and develop a print on material

Responding to the recording

With the doodles

Looking at emptiness trying

To get hold of something

Attending holuhooping

Workshop

And dance

And some self portraits

Taking myself further into working with

Film going to

Sensoria 2023 on Friday the 6th of October

A conferences for composer working with film seeking inspiration and knowledge.

Looking further at techniques on how to

Enrich the sounds further. Taking images of instruments such as synthesises.

Sound waves and notes

sensoria Sheffield

Yesterday I went to Shefield  to go to a composeing film confrences  it  was great gathering of  established and up and coming composer working within professional practice and creating scores for film .

Film composer many of the film work I found very moving . I came here for research after creating a piece of music with my tutor suggesting to go film . However this confeneces was for composer making work for film no film makers them self this gave me something to think about to potentially work with the music ive got to a film . And to then go film and then compose could I do this ? This type of sculpting could work out to very intresting . I also have the idea to film layer the music over the piece and to continue work with the sound piece . In my head I currently hear the suttle sounds of piano .

Documenting the old angel performance was an essential exploration as I was working with various layers in the sound picture I had to see what this could look like I wanted to use my bottled instruments within the piece however I was open sculpting the sounds and visuals. I was experimenting with layers at home using pioneer DJ decks RC 30 LOOP Pedal vocal effects pedal and a projector. I also had experimented at college with the bottles, and I knew I wanted to create a multiple-layered experience moving towards performance reflecting on the simplicity yet complexity of the human experience of body feeling emptiness. Settling up took about 30 minutes I played for 2 hours. The visuals on the projector where the environment inside the angel was a great space high ceiling the room was black taking a projector and placing it on I saw that to use a projector I would have to use light material as the black walls would not enable the eyes to see what was being projected sat with my deck's laptop and looper and vocal effects was proofing to be difficult because of the tables it was all shallow to the ground unlike when I am at home and my table is taller so I can stand my layout is different this was the first time doing something out of my home like this. Why did I do this what was I in search of or trying to present this was essential like being in a space and being able to express the colours on my palette with what I had to some extent created needing a place where those sounds could bounce in wider space enabled me to see other possibilities of where the piece could go where I could take it . I am happy with what I recorded and continued to sculpt forward with the various sounds I was placing together.

Documented images from exploration at the angel
it was great to set future things to think about layout as sitting down was not good
for me . Although I got some results if I was more comfortable I think it would of been a lot better exprience .

PRINTING ON TO METRIAL

 SOUNDWAVES ON MATERIAL

Getting stuck into the process of taking sound waves from the recording that I did

and  alter colours using filter layering up using opacity

I found this process to be quite soothing although repetitive I made many before I deciding to create a sublimation print. I chose to do lots of colours however this was not connecting to what I had recorded. I enjoy the process of sublimation printing. I knew I had to do this to see what was possible I tried to make a piece of clothing using setting silk I found it hard to use as it moved around not the easiest metrial to work with The result I did not like . I didnt like cause of what i was trying to make  . How could i improve it ? I do think that if i did it more nutural colours or simply black and white i may of prefered what i had created relating more with the mood of the piece that i recorded emptiness . Other thoughts spring to mind are the object that I have placed this print on could I have created some kind of cussion would I still feel the same about the colour  .

light night exhbition

When my lecturer told me of the opportunity to share my work at the light exhbtion this really helped to spur me on giving me something else outside of myself to work towards on the night of the exhibition my work was on a screen with seats placed in front of it to view. Going to the exhibition many sat and took the time to watch I talked to a few people explaining what it was about. My only criticism is monitors to hear the piece with a lot more clarity would give more clarity to the vision of what I had created.
